Templo Mayor Museum

The Mexica heart that still beats beneath the city

AREA

What Makes It Special?

The heart of Tenochtitlan lies beneath the Historic Center. This museum and its archaeological site connect the present with the grandeur of the Mexica civilization, right next to the Cathedral.

Did You Know…?

The Templo Mayor was discovered by accident in 1978, when utility workers stumbled upon a massive monolith of Coyolxauhqui. That discovery changed the history of the city center forever.

Don’t Miss

Step into the room dedicated to Huitzilopochtli: his sculpture and the sacrificial objects are striking. As you leave, turn toward the Cathedral… and reflect on the contrast between the two worldviews.
