The museum is operated by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) and is located within its facilities. It is not open to the general public, and access is restricted to military personnel and authorized visitors for academic or diplomatic purposes.

Among its most famous exhibits is an “altar” dedicated to Jesús Malverde, whom some consider the “saint of drug traffickers,” as well as items seized from cartel leaders.
