Museum of Mexican Medicine – Palace of the School of Medicine

From Traditional Healer to Surgeon: A Journey Through the Science of the Mexican Body

AREA

What Makes It Special?

Located in the majestic Palace of the School of Medicine, this museum offers a fascinating journey through the history of medicine in Mexico. From pre-Hispanic herbal medicine to modern surgery, this museum celebrates our understanding of the human body.

Did You Know…?

The building served as the headquarters of the Holy Office of the Inquisition in New Spain, and later as the UNAM School of Medicine. Today, its rooms house antique instruments, manuscripts, anatomical models, a 19th-century apothecary, and themed galleries on legal, forensic, and surgical medicine.

Don’t Miss

Don't miss the Anatomy Room or the Cabinet of Medical Curiosities: both are as unsettling as they are educational. If you're interested in science, this museum is an unexpected gem in the heart of downtown.
