Manuel Tolsá Museum

Art, architecture, and neoclassical heritage in the heart of the Historic District

AREA

What Makes It Special?

This museum pays tribute to the architect and sculptor Manuel Tolsá, who created iconic works such as the Palacio de Minería and the equestrian statue of Charles IV (“El Caballito”). It is located inside the Palacio de Minería itself, a jewel of Mexican Neoclassical architecture.

Did You Know…?

Tolsá not only designed buildings; he was also the first director of the Royal Academy of San Carlos. The museum displays original blueprints, models, busts, measuring instruments, and historical documents.

Don’t Miss

Check to see if guided tours are available: the history of the Palacio de Minería and the life of Tolsá are even more enjoyable with an explanation. In addition, during certain times of the year, it also hosts temporary exhibitions on engineering, science, or art.
