National Museum of Popular Cultures

Mexico's vibrant culture, as told through its people and traditions

AREA

What Makes It Special?

This museum celebrates who we are: our festivals, trades, traditions, cuisines, clothing, music, and ways of life. Here, there are no cold display cases—only the vibrant energy of everyday life.

Did You Know…?

It was founded in 1982 by Guillermo Bonfil Batalla, the renowned Mexican anthropologist. Unlike other museums, it has no permanent collection: everything is temporary, dynamic, and ever-changing, just like popular culture itself.

Don’t Miss

Check the schedule before you go: every visit is different. You might find an exhibition on textiles from Oaxaca, a piñata fair, a showcase of traditional cuisines, or a festival of indigenous languages.
