What Makes It Special?

This museum is housed in the Council Chamber of the Old City Hall, where key decisions regarding the history of Mexico City have been made since the colonial era. The space has witnessed more than 500 years of city governance.

Did You Know…?

The charter establishing the city’s first town council was signed here in 1524. The hall still contains historic furniture, portraits of viceroys and heads of government, as well as documents and artifacts related to the exercise of local government.

Don’t Miss

Visits are usually guided group tours by appointment, but it’s well worth it if you’re interested in the city’s institutional history. The building also offers a spectacular view of the Zócalo from its balconies.
