What Makes It Special?

This museum is housed in the majestic Old Archbishop's Palace, built on top of the ancient pyramid of Tezcatlipoca. Since 1994, it has been home to the SHCP's "Pago en Especie" collection, which features works by Tamayo, Rivera, Carrington, Toledo, and many other artists.

Did You Know…?

The building was founded in 1530 by Fray Juan de Zumárraga, and after serving as both a clerical residence and a tax office, it was restored following the 1985 earthquake. It retains its New Spanish Baroque architecture and visible remnants of the original pyramid.

Don’t Miss

In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions, concerts, and lectures. We recommend visiting on a weekday to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the central courtyard and the galleries.

How to Get There

Zócalo/Tenochtitlan (Blue Line 2) – 3-minute walk

Republic of Argentina (Line 4) – 8-minute walk

CE-094 Verdad-Moneda St. – 2-minute walk

The best way to get there is from the Zócalo Metro station, due to its proximity and direct connection to the pedestrian streets. It’s ideal if you’re also visiting the Cathedral or the National Palace.
