Mixcoac Archaeological Zone

Where the Mexica teocalli still beats amidst the modern concrete

AREA

What Makes It Special?

This museum is located on the archaeological ruins of the ancient teocalli of Mixcoac, one of the last ceremonial centers to survive the conquest in the Valley of Mexico. It houses part of a pyramid, artifacts found at the site, and a local perspective on Mexica history.

Did You Know…?

“Mixcoac” means “Place of the Cloud Serpent,” and it was an agricultural and ceremonial area surrounded by rivers and volcanoes. Pre-Hispanic ruins were discovered during urban construction projects and are now on display in a small interpretive gallery.

Don’t Miss

Although the museum is small, it is a treasure trove for anyone interested in learning about the pre-Hispanic past outside the city center.
