What Makes It Special?

This herbarium contains more than 3,500 specimens of medicinal plants used by communities in Mexico. It is a pioneering project that preserves ancestral knowledge of herbal medicine and its application in modern medicine.

Did You Know…?

It was founded in 1981 by the Mexican Social Security Institute as part of its traditional medicine program, and it houses a unique collection of plant species that have been scientifically studied for their healing properties.

Don’t Miss

In addition to preserving plants, the herbarium provides information on their traditional uses, toxicity, and therapeutic properties. It is used for academic purposes, but occasionally offers guided tours.
